Why is illegal dumping a big issue?

Globally, of all of the plastic ever created, only 9% has been recycled. 79% ends up on legal or illegal dumps. In European Union it is estimated that 20% of all generated waste ends up on illegal dumpsites. With the business as usual scenario dumpsites will account for 8-10% of the global Greenhouse Gas emissions in 2025.

How does TrashOut project help?

TrashOut is an environmental project which aims to map all illegal dumps around the world and help citizens recycle more. Thanks to TrashOut, all people can have real impact on their environment, all you need is a smartphone.

Illegal dumps are a serious problem and each year we produce more and more waste. Dumps are often found in places without an address, without an easy way how to report them so getting rid of them can be next to impossible. We decided to create a simple tool that allows people to map, report and clean these dumps wherever they find them - TrashOut. If you want to see how does it work click here.
